Location and How To Get Here
The nearest international airport is Rio de Janeiro. REGUA is located 80Km to the north-east of the city. You can reach us by private transfer, car or by bus.
Transfer service
The easiest way to reach us from Rio de Janeiro (which also avoids hiring a car) is by private transfer (click here for prices). Our driver will meet you at the arrivals terminal and drive you to REGUA which takes approximately two hours. Please let us know at the time of booking if you require this service and include your flight details. Transfers to and from hotels in Rio de Janeiro can also be arranged.
By car
It takes about two hours to reach us by car. The last part of the journey is on an unpaved road, however you do not need a 4WD.
From Rio de Janeiro International Airport take Avenida Vinte de Janeiro and turn right and drive across the Via. Presidente Joao Goulart road bridge. Just after the bridge turn off at the Avenida Brigadeiro Trompowski exit and follow the road round over another road bridge. Just after the bridge there is an exit on your left, take this and continue straight on. Soon after the road turns right onto the northbound Avenida Brasil towards Petrolopis.
Continue along Avenida Brasil until you see a junction where you turn off right onto the BR116 (Rodovia Washington Luiz - Pista Lateral). Continue across the first junction and after a while you will reach the second junction where the BR116 leaves the Rodovia Washington Luiz - Pista Lateral and turns right onto Via. Marginal. Turn right here and stay on the BR116 towards Teresopolis until you reach the junction with the RJ-122 at Guapimirim-Parada Modelo (you will see a flyover and a gas station and town on your right) where you turn right onto the RJ-122 (Estrada Rio Friburgo) towards Cachoeiras de Macacu and Nova Friburgo.
At Km 32 look for a speed trap by a disused petrol station on your right. Opposite there is a small bar on the corner of an unpaved road, turn left here (look for signs for Cascatai Agua Mineral). Continue along the road for 11km where you will reach a fork with another bar on our right and signs pointing right for Guapi Açu and Hotel Fazenda. Take the left road and after 500m you will cross a bridge. Continue for 300m where the road turns sharp left at the junction with a smaller road on the right. Continue round to the left and after another 500m you will cross a small bridge, turn right immediately after this bridge and drive through the double gates into the reserve. Continue along the main track (past the reserve buildings on your right) up the small hill to the lodge.
By bus
REGUA can also be reached by public bus. From the airport catch a taxi to Rio de Janeiro bus terminal. From here a company called 1001 (mille e um) runs a regular service to Nova Friburgo for around R$20. Get off at Cachoeiras de Macacu bus terminal and catch a Colletivo Guapiaçu bus to Areal (cost about R$2.50) asking the driver to drop you at REGUA (last bus leaves at 17:00). From the entrance gate walk up the main track to the lodge. Alternatively you can get a taxi for around R$60 (ask for 'Radio Taxi Mauro' at the bus terminal for a taxi to Reserva Ecológica de Guapiaçu).
